While waiting for the master U.S. articles of incorporation from which to model the remaining parts of the Ugandan constitution, I developed a 2010 working plan (objectives) for Mercy Uganda as required for NGO status. Even though this year is almost over, the government expects that such plans would already be in place and thus that Mercy Uganda would provide something developed before the year began.
I particularly enjoyed the progress we made because we identified some gaps in effectiveness and a plan to close them up by setting some short term objectives. As an example, some of the schools in the area are being run simply for profit. Many, however, have big-hearted leaders with a passion to help rather than to take advantage of the children. As a result we developed a school review process to assess and monitor the schools where sponsored children attend.
The working plan includes accomplishments from 2009 and goals for 2010. I talked with Laura about the need to begin thinking about 2011 objectives and about developing a five-year plan. A number of other business decisions would be useful to helping the mission maintain focus and advance in serving the women and children of Uganda.
