The real purpose of the dinner on Lake Victoria was to introduce Laura to a man who will show Mercy Uganda some land that is for sale. The ministry needs a local residence to obtain nonprofit status here. In the long term, Marcy Uganda will make that resource available to ministry people who come to serve on a short term basis.
What was interesting about this meeting was how important it was to meet Frank before the showing of property scheduled for later this week. Gabriel introduced us to Frank via what was a long biography of how they met and how much they have done for one another and how Gabriel knew us and how they work together. The introduction was something like an endorsement, an assurance that doing business together would be vouched for by someone we had in common.
This isn’t the first time this form of introduction has been observed. I am beginning to understand how important this type of endorsement is and how difficult it could be to make business deals without such relationships.
