Mosquito Nets

After meeting with the Minister of Ethics in Kampala, the team ran several errands in the city. We met with a Barclay’s bank manager about opening an account for Mercy Uganda, a requirement for obtaining NGO status. We got passport photos for Gabriel and Henry, as required for the NGO registration (Laura and Lauren already have theirs). We investigated setting up a land line telephone, as required for NGO status. We got Larium for Laura from the pharmacy. We also had lunch at some fancy hotel with American food. I cooled my feet in the fountain…it’s not a good idea to dare me. Lauren enjoyed a real American ingredient milk shake…and guarded it with her life.

The last errand was to get mosquito nets. Five individual size nets for the children in the village of Karamoja where Gabriel is liaison, three family size nets for specific children in an orphanage in Kyamugamule (cha-ma-ga-moo-lee), and one family size net for Grace’s grandchildren. On the way out of Kampala, we followed a truck that was selling the nets made by BASF out of the back. While Gabriel was driving, Henry jumped out of the car and ran up into the back of that truck (which kept driving). He examined all the nets, got bulk rate pricing, and returned to report.

Please consider sponsoring nine mosquito nets for 88,000 shillings ($44.00) to help prevent more than five individuals and four families from getting malaria.

  1. Leslie,
Bill O and I were with World Visions ACT:S the other day working on their Malaria initiative and nets are a big part of it. We could get you in touch with them if you wish.
    Have a great trip.
