The Uganda Population post described the 1 million people who are living with HIV/AIDS in that country. Today we visited the Mildmay Uganda center whose mission is to improve the quality of life of people living with AIDS through the provision of holistic care and training about the condition.
The facility was beautifully situated on a hillside and used an open campus format. They provide holistic HIV/AIDS care and training and treatment for adults and children. Mildmay reports itself to be a Christian organization, but provides religious services to four major religions found in the area.
We hoped this organization would be a resource for some of the women and children served by Mercy Uganda. This provision of non-Christian spiritual counseling is a concern. We’re torn between the value of the treatment available at this well-respected institution and the ultimate salvation of the soul. Of course, living with and dying from AIDS means nothing compared to living apart from God forever.
